Andressia Ramirez
Andressia Ramirez
Andressia Ramirez, a dedicated Mexican American litigation paralegal and activist, was born to immigrant parents from Querétaro, Mexico, and raised in Wilson, North Carolina, where she cultivated a deep commitment to social justice. She is a graduate of Meredith College with a major in Communication. In 2022, she represented Mexico as a United Nations General Assembly youth delegate. Currently, Andressia works with the NC Justice Center’s Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project and Workers’ Rights Project, focusing on legal support for undocumented and low-income individuals, particularly in farmworker cases.
Alondra Vega
Alondra Vega
Alondra Vega was born in San Lucas Michoacán, Mexico. She immigrated to the United States at 19 and has lived in Wilson, North Carolina, for 23 years. She also has a significant background in insulation, especially industrial insulation, where she continues to work. In addition to her work in insulation, she owns a small housekeeping business. She earned her GED at Wake Tech and took welding classes at Lenoir Community College. Her three children are her greatest pride and daily motivation.
Georgina Barbosa
Georgina Barbosa
Georgina Barbosa was born in Mexico City and raised in Jalisco. In 1992, she won a scholarship to attend Las Americas University in San Antonio, TX, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Music and Theology. She worked at Sallie B Howard School for 22 years as an administrative assistant, Spanish teacher, ESL IA, and Hispanic parents liaison. She currently is a secretary at Beddingfield High School to continue helping Latino families.
AXEL HERRERA RAMOS
Axel Herrera
Axel is a DACA recipient born in Honduras and immigrated with his family in 2005. He currently lives in Durham, NC. He has focused most of his leadership on immigrant justice and education equity. He graduated with a B.S. in Economics and a double major in Sociology in 2020 from Duke University. After graduating, he served as part of the 2020-21 Duke College Advising Corps, serving students in Sampson County in eastern NC. Axel is a Durham Public Schools Foundation board member and the Durham Participatory Budget Steering Committee chair. In his current role, Axel is the Civic Engagement Director for Mi Familia Vota in North Carolina.
Maria Elena Ramirez
Maria Ramirez
Maria Ramirez, originally from Guerrero, Mexico, immigrated to the United States with her parents at the age of one. She grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia. Despite the challenges of being undocumented, Maria was determined to pursue her education. She started by earning her associate’s degree from Wilson Community College. Maria continued her education, ultimately achieving a Master of Science in Nursing to become a Nurse Practitioner specializing in family medicine. Art has always been Maria’s first love; she expresses her creativity as a muralist and painter. Her artwork reflects her cultural heritage and the vibrant spirit of her community.
Maria Raymundo
Maria Raymundo
Maria del Carmen Reymundo is from Tamaulipas, Mexico. She has a degree in Elementary Education and has lived in the United States since 1987. In 1993, she began working with East Coast Migrant Head Start for 17 years. She continues to work in education and serves as the Parent Coordinator for the Nash County School District. She is a community leader who advocates for Hispanic families’ educational and mental health needs to integrate them into society on an equal opportunity basis.
